Matthew 5:14-16 is a powerful passage that speaks directly to the heart of Christian living. It says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Being the light challenges us to always be the good light. Some days this is a challenge–just like keeping a candle lit. A stray breeze can spring up from no where and our light struggles. Jesus was stressing that we need to do all we can to keep our light alive and bright.
What does it mean to be the light of the world? Light represents hope, guidance, and truth. When Jesus calls us the light. He is inviting us to reflect His love and goodness in our lives. This isn’t just about being nice. It’s about living in a way that draws others to God. How can we let our light shine?
Think about it: when you see a bright light in the dark, you want to go towards it. Your actions and words can be that light for someone who is lost or struggling. Have you ever thought about how your behavior affects those around you? How can you let your light shine?
What does this look like in your life? It might mean being honest in your dealings, showing kindness to strangers, or standing up for what is right. Each of these actions can shine brightly in a world that often feels dark.
Are you hiding your light? Maybe you feel shy or afraid of what others might think. Or maybe you think your light isn’t enough in a world that seems to cling to darkness. Or maybe you feel that being the light may make you an outcast by those who prefer the darkness–or possibly a light that isn’t so bright. Remember, your light is meant to shine! It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being genuine. He put you here to be the light that the world needs to see! You are His light!! How can you let your light shine?
Let us pray.
